What they unveiled at the show, is that a mock up or an actual helicopter/prototype?

IMHO, or maybe it is just Monday morning, but the Bell Model-525 Relentless looks like a civil version of the "Silent Hawk" used for the Bin Ladin raid.
The tailboom and tail rotor just looks so familiar...

Just got back from Heli Expo in Dallas over the weekend and hereby my pics :)

All Bell employees at the show even the ones from Bell Canada in Mirabel had the funky black shirts with red 'R' emblem which glowed blue, flashed just after the screens pulled back :)

I was hoping they'd give them away, sadly not. Only freebies regarding the event, were memory stick of media kit on, tonnes of can cooler holders, and the odd R pin

Cheers

Any word on military interests in the new helicopter? Pretty sleek looking and seems a great blend of classic helicopter looks and next generation technology. :D

Having talked with the 525 folks in Dallas last week, no one hinted that it be of military interest. At the mo the Relentless is purely for the civil market and Petroleum Helicopters Inc are the first customers.

However John, theres nothing to say something may sprout out of Bells XworX to compete with the likes of Sikorsky or Eurocopter or AgustaWestland the 525 from what I gather has been under development in some form or shape for the last decade with NO hint of artists impression or existent of project till end of 2010 beginning of last year!

Cheers

Significant weight growth to meet military standards (at least US). While it may eventually find its way into paramilitary work, I personnally think the military market is saturated in that class of aircraft.

"The Bell 525 Relentless Helicopter Cabin Is Worthy of a Bond Villain"

The Bell 525 Relentless super-medium-class helicopter—now in development and expected to fly for the first time this spring—was designed to meet the grueling demands of offshore oil operations, but it also will be available with a variety of luxurious cabin interiors. The 525’s commodious 88-square-foot cabin can be equipped with the sorts of technology and entertainment amenities more commonly found aboard private jets, expanding what is possible for private helicopter travelers. New images from the company offer a sample of VIP interior options, including oversize swivel seating, conference layouts, and a mini galley.

The 525 Relentless is the first commercial helicopter with a fly-by-wire cockpit, featuring sidestick controls and a fully integrated touchscreen Garmin flight deck. It can cruise at speeds up to 178 mph and fly up to 575 miles nonstop. Deliveries are expected to start next year; Bell has not yet announced a price. (bell525supermedium.net)

Gosh. Even bearing in mind that they always use wide angles for promotional shots, I don't think I've ever seen a helicopter's cabin of that width.

The cabin holds 18 passengers so I imagine that it makes for a very nice VIP luxury helicopter.

EXCLUSIVE: BELL 525 Relentless flies for first time
Today at approximately 10:18 AM the prototype for the Bell/Textron 525 Relentless took to the skies for the first time from the Amarillo, Texas plant.

After a long engine run up the Bell 525 hovered then flew down to taxi way for about 10 minutes Bell employees and brass cheered as it took off.
