The two Vought-Adam VSTOL types should use a fan-in-wing concept.
Here are two pictures of them from Aviation Week 1968,19-26.

Greetings All -

I'm new to the forum and this is one topic that is dear to my heart. I go down yearly to do volunteer work with the Vought Retiree's Club/Heritage Group and have spent some time in the proposals files. I'm planning on going back down this Fall and do some more hunting and research, particularly on the ADAM designs.

The following are scans of a set of drawings filed under "Advanced Concepts". Secoy appears to the be the designer or drafter for the drawings and the dates are noted in the file name when one was included on the drawing. The general description is mine save for the LAAS and HSV labels. I'll post more of these tomorrow.

Later 'll post some of the design proposals after I get back from a trip. These will cover the Vought proposals for what became the A-6, the E-2 and the F-14 as well as a few others.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Mark - I hope you don't mind, I've reposted your images in a slightly different way which allows you to see the filename and view the image in its full glory by clicking it. We are extremely grateful for this excellent stuff!

And another "variation on a theme", from Aviation Week 1968 19-26.
Was this concept ever tested in some form of hardware?

Is there any further information about the workings of the Vought ADAM [Air Deflection And Modulation] (aka propulsive wing) VSTOL concept?

I have a detailed report from Vought on ADAM. Will probably be able to post some info from that.

Thanks in advance, there are some ADAM art in "Les Avions Vought" but no description about this technology.

Greetings All -

I have a an overall concept paper on the ADAM that I scanned to PDF. It's about 5 meg in size and if someone can host it for download, I'd be happy to provide it. I also have a lot of model photos and drawings I will post here shortly.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

I just have a question about Adam's VTOL bomber, as represented in the most recently posted color picture:

Umm...ahem...9 engines?!

Weren't Vought part of United Aircraft along with P&W? Might explain that :)

Okay, here we go with various ADAM models and drawings. I'll start out with the early iterations (the A phase based on the study paper) which had large horizontal stabilizers as an obvious design element.

Enjoy the Day! Mark

Overscan, this link is dead. Could you possibly reactivate it for a couple of days, if it's not too much trouble? Thank you very much!

Here is the V-460 design. I know what they would have delivered the Marines in if the movie "Aliens" was produced in the mid-'60s and if they knew about this design ;D
