From a trip to the NHHC a bit back...I only scanned these in at 300 DPI, so they're not as big as they could be. :'(

That's interesting: The long dorsal fairing ahead of the tail suggests prototype had handling issues...

Hardly surprising if you consider the original configuration...

Yes - the elimination of the gunner and gun turrets did the trick. Very nice photographs! -SP

Ha! Ryan, I was about to dig into my best book on naval Douglas types, and there you go... your scan is from that very book!

Here's the XSB2D-1 and the BTD-1 from the same book: 50th Anniversary of Naval Aviation 1911-1961 - Souvenir Issue, Douglas Aircraft Company, Inc., Jan-Feb 1962.
