One of the objective to develop this flying boat was to back up 97-shiki flying boat.
Flying performance was good especially max speed and long range but stability was poor at the sea.
And 97-shiki flying boat had excellent performence, number of production of H5Y were only 20.

Ok, ok, i had made an fictional H5Y3 with mitsubishi kasei 22 with 1850 hp, but in real history of this plane i was except to find some project with some improved version ( more powerful engine)
