I wanted to recommend these two books, in case you hadn't heard about them. They can be snagged for relatively cheap, and they are both by one of the best aviation writers, Bill Gunston. They make for a good read, and besides offering little known tidbits of aviation history, they are also very fun to read.

"Back to the drawing board" is sort of "the world's worst aircraft" but much better than other publications that explored the topic superficially.
"Plane speaking" covers seldom told stories of poor design practices and shortsighted acquisition policies among others; the kind of stuff that often is only mentioned in passing in aviation books.
