Were they trying to make use of a waverider effect for the second stage?

Hi Grey,

please read the translation.

From Flieger Revue 12/1980,

the Sukhoi Albatros dimensions.

Yeah, as if a Bimese TSTO wasn't difficult enough, plus crossfeed. Let's put it on a ship !

the 1974 Albatros concept is wild

it use hydrofoil as propellant tank for First stage engines during acceleration.
once the that tanks is empty the two stage have takeoff speed at around 180 km/h.
the entere system would bring 30 metric tons in low orbit

it compete against Energia/Buran and lost...

Perhaps having a big hydrofoil would allow an asteroid fly-by rotorvator to pick up large objects at sea.

Here, speed is just important to reduce stress on cables.

From what I'm reading on hydrofoils they don't seem to be able to reach the needed speed (180kph/112mph) due to hydrodynamic drag. I seem to recall a version that suggested an ekranoplan, now that should probably work.

Original 1982 publication. I wonder where Wade did get all that 1974 timing and Sukhoi & Alekseev OKB whatabouts.

At least two of the authors were long-time professors of Bauman State Technical University. Absense of project mention in any - even recent - of Alekseev or Sukhoi OKB - historical publications (that's while project was _openly_ published in 1982) allows me to think that any relationship to above-mentioned design bureaus is a pure myth (not talking about technical aspects of this weird idea of 720 kph hydrofoil carrying LH2 TSTO).
