USMC Doctrine Changes

June 8 - "The MADIS is mounted on a pair of JLTVs, Joint Light Tactical Vehicles, one with a turret launcher for four Stinger missiles and a 30mm cannon, as well as an optical sensor and shoulder-fired Stingers. The second vehicle is equipped with an RPS-42 360-degree radar, a 7.62mm M134 minigun, and electro-optic/infrared sensors, as well as shoulder-fired Stingers. On both vehicles is the Modi II dismounted electronic countermeasures system, which can be used to disrupt enemy drones, communications, and radio-controlled improvised explosive devices."

October 5 - "The Marine Corps awarded Norway’s Kongsberg a contract worth up to $94 million to deliver the remote weapon systems (RWS) for the Marine Air Defense Integrated System (MADIS) program as part of a counter-unmanned aircraft systems (C-UAS) program."

Looks very similar to the Army IM-SHORAD (Initial Maneuver Short-Range Air Defense) system based on the Stryker with its four Stingers, two Longbow Hellfires, 30 mm Bushmaster, and M240 7.62 mm machine gun, the same Israeli RADA RPS-42 360-degree S-band radar? The main differences appears to be MADIS includes the Sierra Nevada Modi II jammer to give soft kill ability and IM-SHORAD adds the Hellfires, different approaches taken by the Army and the Marines for same mission.

PS Surprised to see use of an S-band radar as normally need large antennas for its relatively low frequency as normally used in long range VSR eg SPY-6 compared to normal FCR which use X or K band high frequency, most be missing some RADA new and different tech.

On the subject of Light Amphibious Ships currently being studied by the Navy/Marines, this is furthering the shift towards more distributed operations with smaller and more number units.

That said, understand that currently, we barely have the standing capability to deploy an entire MEF by sea. Maybe III MEF in Okinawa is easier as it’s a bit smaller. I think it’s only possible by literally bringing together the ARGs currently embarked by the seven MEUs from both the east and west coasts.

The Royal Marines were part of an adversary unit commanded by 7th Marines that included MARSOC, pitted against 3rd Marines playing as the Blue Force. The whole point is to test adjustments to TTPs.

Every marine is a rifleman. Every soldier in every service should pass basic marksmanship classes. Retrain every year and be competent. If a ship goes down with 1000 surviving sailors, they should convert to land warfare. With the skills of the sailors, get them out and on another ship ASAP. I am just saying everyone in the USDOD should be able to shoot and kill. It includes Bianca or Steve the trophy secretary.
