i found this Picture of Tank
called "XM-759 MTV"

very unusual track design.

A high mobility vehicle was under development in the USA during the Vietnam War, which had a similar tracked drive system carrying very low profile rubber 'tyres'. From memory it was similar to the vehicle in the photograph & was designed to cope with swamps.
It was not a tank.
Many odd ideas surfaced during the Vietnam War & soon disappeared.
 
Yeah they tested a bunch of vehicle designs, new and adoptions of existing kit with bigger low pressure swamp tires like that.


This similar themed setup on an 105mm M101 for trials was intended for service on the XM-204 lightweight low pressure howitzer, another Vietnam centric design that never saw service, despite attempts to use to make the Chinook into a tank killer.

DTIC reports suggest that vehicle noise and tires were a problem for the XM759 (Owens-Corning were asked to develop fibreglass-reinforced, non-pneumatic tires).

Other marginal terrain vehicles were the M116 Huskie Amphibious Cargo Carrier (1961) and its armoured version, the XM733 RACI Armored Assault Vehicle (1966) used to escort M116s. Anyone know of other US MTV projects?

Not a coincidence. Custom vehicle designer Dean Jeffries chose to use the Lockeed triwheel system on the "Landmaster" vehicle he designed and built for the movie for it's obvious futuristic look..

The vehicle in the German photo appears to use a system very similiar to the Rollagon vehicles used for arctic and swamp transportation by the oil industry. Crowley Maritime has a small fleet of them operating in the Northslope oilfields of alaska..

You will note that the picture from the Chinese forum was in fact originally taken from this site.

Its the Marine Corps "Marginal Terrain Vehicle XM 759"
The plan was to replace the M76 and M116 with new Vehicle that was also amphibian.
To be transported by Rail, ship and air by C130 or VTOL

Length 241-1/2 in. Width 110 in. Height 87 in.
Payload 3000 lb or 14 personnel
Weight 14030 lb

Speed: Land 25 mph water 7 mph (wanted 35 mph and 10 mph)
