Hi folks,

I've read that the Tu-95 Bear's crew at the front of the aircraft (six people - excluding the gunner in the tail) use a unique system: On the floor of the flightdeck, there is a conveyor belt about 3 feet wide and 7 feet long. In the case of having to bale out, the escape hatch in nosewheel bay (landing gear lowered obviously) is opened which starts up the conveyor belt. The crew are supposedly to role out of their seats onto the conveyor belt which then 'conveys' them to the hatch and out of the aircraft.

If anyone has pictures of this conveyor belt I'd be very appreciative.

Regards,

Greg

*Bump*

Thought I'd see if anyone has anything on this this time around.

Greg

It can be seen (partially) in Koku-Fan Magazine No. 85 (a Special Issue on Modern Russian Military Aircraft), dating from 1995. Unfortunately, I no longer have it myself, but maybe this info. will help you out. Good luck.

I have seen this system first hand, and have attached a shot I took below of the slatted 'conveyor'....

How's that? :)

Thankyou - that's the first picture I've seen of this unique system.
