Here's an anime concept showing underbody conformal tanks/bays for an F-16, to answer the complaint about dorsal missile carriage. Couple that with the diverterless inlet and F-16XL style large wing, and you would have something interesting to work with.

That's from Patlabor 2 as is this F-15!

The CFT placement is still questionable on that fictional F-16, as their is no telling how it's curvature could effect the lift characteristics of the aircraft, and how it's placement effects undercarriage deployment. The F-15 raises even more questions especially with triangular control surfaces for reduced RCS, but at least we know a canard and thrust vectoring F-15 works quite well! I will admit, whoever did the mechanical design for Patlabor 2 certainly knew what he was doing in terms of the direction plausible upgrades for existing aircraft were going.
