Unlike Messerschmitt, Heinkel, Henschel and Blohm & Voss, Focke-Wulf did not use a 'P' system to number its aircraft projects, rather it put together a 'Baubeschreibung' or 'Kurzbeschreibung' on them - a sort of brief report. The number of this document was then used in reference to the project. All the wartime projects seem to fall between Baubeschreibung Nr. 200 and Nr. 292, and Kurzbeschreibung (sometimes Kurzbaubeschreibung) Nr. 1 and Nr 30. I've spent a few years attempting to compile a list and this is the best I can manage so far...

Hm - is Jagdflugzeug Fw 190 A-8 Baubeschreibung Nr. 248 or 284? I've had a quick look back through my paperwork but I've yet to locate it (I have rather a lot of paperwork). I did turn up another Kurzbeschreibung in the process though - Nr. 13 is Ta 152 mit Jumo 222 AB/3 bzw Jumo 222 E/F.

I'm not actually sure which title of mine will come next - probably British Secret Projects 5: Britain's Space Shuttle from Crecy.

Thanks for your reply, Dan, I`ve seen it advertised. Do you have anything on WW2 german aviation poping-up?

I've written a followup to Luftwaffe: Secret Jets which should be out reasonably soon, though I can't say exactly when.

It seems you have a host of followers, Dan :)! Perhaps after the 2nd volume of "Secret Jets..." you could pursue something on Focke-Wulf B)?

By the way,

a copy of the whole FW archive was transferred to DVL in April 1945,as I know.

even Flugzeug Classic said it was Nr.272.

Focke-Wulf presented its twin-boom jet fighter design to third parties in February 1944 as the Baubeschreibung Nr. 272 Einmotoriger TL-Jäger mit R-Gerät, and later in July 1944 as Baubeschreibung Nr. 280 Einmotoriger TL-Jäger mit R-Gerät (see attached). But I was mistaken when I stated in Luftwaffe: Secret Jets and on this forum that absolutely no period document ever refers to it as the Flitzer. After several years of searching, I have recently discovered a set of internal company memos which make reference to 'Flitzer' or 'Projekt Flitzer' and are clearly referring to that single-jet design. These date from around May 1944 to September 1944.
The Nr. 272 report was dated February 1944 but memos earlier than May 1944 don't seem to use 'Flitzer'.

I've been gradually updating the Baubeschreibung list for about four years. There are too many drawings to list every single drawing number and what the drawing depicts.
Good evening,

I see you have been keeping a list of Baubeschreibungen.
Do you happen to have Baubeschreibung Nr. 284 FW 190 A-8 without a watermark or maybe the version of www.deutscheluftwaffe.de?
I only see the WWIIAircraftPerformance .com version all over the internet.

Regards,

Edwin

The full updated list is elsewhere on this forum. I'm not overly interested in Nr. 284 so I've never bothered to try and photograph it. The original is at the Imperial War Museum, I think.

That’s okay. I have already got it in the mean time (via this forum). Thanks for the info.
