Three post war Italian trainer designs, in competition to replace the North American T-6. Prototypes only, none chosen for production.

Bailey, thank you for your post, since the three view drawings of these aircraft are very rare.

Last evening I browsed my books about this argument, and I found that for the same RFP also Breda-IMAM with Filippo Zappata planned to study a trainer with an Alvis Leonides engine, but I was not able to retrieve any other info about this project.
Probably Zappata was studying this aircraft when Breda was close to the end, so the project very likely stopped in the preliminary phase (My source is Emilio Brotzu, "Aviazione militare in Italia 1944-1980" Ed. Dell'Ateneo & Bizzarri).

In the same book, I found that Macchi studied also a M.B.323 variant, the M.B.323T with front tricycle undercarriage, like the North American T-28.

I have three views surely of the first. The Zappata one was AZ-3, if I remember well (or was it AZ-6 ?). This evening. Maybe the Macchi one two.

Shame on me ! Not only it wasn't the AZ-6, but I don't have it.... What I have is the AZ-5, which was a ground attack with a Merlin (probably intended for the Middle East ). Judging form chronology, the Leonides-powered trainer should have been AZ-7 (the AZ-6, a twin-Leonides liason and light transport is from 1954).
