I am not sure whether this drawing belongs to real projects or fantastic illustrations.
Could you help me classify it, please?

The illustration seems to be related to the Stipa-Caproni airliner projects dated beginning of the 30'S.

Thanks Lark. For more on the Les Mureaux-Stipa project, see: Model Stories
http://modelarchives.free.fr/Bestiaire/Stipa_P/index.html

The 3-view was taken from that site. There is also a photo of the wind tunnel model.

I believe the Potez 220 and 230 are projects by Mureaux, but build later by Potez 1939 and 1940.

Thanks Maveric. I keep getting myself confused on the 203 vs 230. :-[

The Potez 220 was the eliptical-winged twin that I was trying to remember. The Potez 221 AB3 project must be a recce bomber development of the 220 (presumably with a glazed nose replacing the 220's ventral observation position).

Searching for something different, I'just found two pictures of the ANF Mureaux Stipa 203
in the Aviation Francaise Magazine N°3:

Hi,

at the end of 1935,Mureaux ANF company designed a small aircraft powered
by two Salmson engines, and retractable undercarriage, and had estimated
speed of 400 km/h,but it had unknown designation.

From l'Aeronautique 1934,

here is the Models for Stipa twin and three engined projects, and the flow of the
air in tubular section.

Unless it's simply page 120 of that book... without the context it's always hard to be conclusive.

The first sentence says that engineer Stipa made that design for the Caproni, so I would lean to the 120 being the designation of the plane. Pages of books are seldom numbered in the chapter title.

Sorry if there is already a topic on this, I couldn't find one. Intriguing design.

Model in display case at Leonardo da Vinci museum in Milan. Not labelled but likely Caproni. Not obvious in these poor quality images are the elevators and rudders (x3) behind the engine ducts.

Hi Covert,

it was Caproni Stipa;

If this topic is to include both ANF-Mureaux-Stipa AND Caproni-Stipa projects, perhaps this topic's title ought to reflect that? Can't blame covert_shores for not finding it!
