Hello to all of you SST fans,

I recently discovered this tech review of the Boeing 2707-300. The document is ~100 pages in length, with detail that is fascinating. It appears that it originated right from Boeing. Sections include:

Intro
Summary
Pax Accommodations
Flt Deck
Structures
Systems (environ, flt controls, hyd, elect, and comm/nav)
Ops Characteristics (a/c perf)
Airport Interface
Sizing/Versatility

The level of tech detail is absolutely fantastic, with this document clearly being the most comprehensive and thorough publication that I've yet seen re. the 2707. I'm in the avaition safety business, but I've always been a huge fan/student of America's aborted SST initiative. Enjoy...

Hi folks,
I'm quite busy the last weeks and unfortunately less time to post here. :-[
Here a video about a Flying-Wing SST lecture by Robert Thomas (R.T). Jones in the year 1986.
I hope this is the right topic.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vxgg0BXMoqU
This 1986 lecture features by Robert Thomas (R.T). Jones as part of the distinguished lecture series on the foundations of aerospace research development. R.T., inventor of the swept-back wing, basic to all of today's high-speed aircraft, died in August 1999 at the age of 89.

An internationally-acclaimed expert in many fields of science and technology whose research was essential to the development of supersonic flight, Jones is perhaps best known as the inventor of the oblique wing design. This radical design concept pivoted an entire straight wing attached to the fuselage, forming a scissor-like appearance as flight speed increased.

Jones began his research career in 1934 when he joined NASA's predecessor agency, the National Advisory Committee for Aeronautics, at its Langley Memorial Aeronautical Laboratory, now called the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, VA.

This recording is from a vhs tape and the quality has deteriorated, but the lecture is well-worth watching.

More on the history and research at NASA Langley Research Center is available at http://crgis.ndc.nasa.gov/historic/larc.

Hi!
My one idea(only shows plan view) for variable geometry supersonic biplane shape to avoid choke. Of course verious wing plan shapes are possible.
For inherent directional stability, sweep back wing(perhaps there is a wing strength problem in sweep back wing) or delta wing will be better.
Engines are located upper the wing, lower the wing or fuselage.
Of course you can add normal shape or biplane shape tail stabilizers, mechanism for variable wing angle of attack and wing high lifting device if necessary.
Required wing slide length may be more small.
Air center does not move radically when changing wing shape. Perhaps wing area increase in low speed shape.
There are some options, for example,
1.One wing slide.
2.Both wing slide.
3.Change one or both wing angle of attack.
Perhaps fuselage size must be minimized same as MISORA to reduce size originated sonic boom and drag.

Grumman XF10F Jaguar and Bell X-5 had a slide wing.

The first pic is actually a Boeing supercruise demonstrator.

That's right my dear Sundog,

but in this topic called it SSBJ.

More goodness from Boeing Images:

In the mid 1990s, McDonnell Douglas studied the feasibility of the High Speed Civil Transport (HSCT) in conjunction with NASA. The proposed aircraft would cruise at mach 2.4, enabling it to deliver 300 passengers from Los Angeles to Tokyo in about five hours.

Hi,

my dear Blackkite displayed this drawing before, but here it's in more clearer view,
it was Lockheed Hydrogen-fueled SST double-deck aircraft of 1975.

Thanks my dear hesham! We are hoping hydrogen fuel world.
But how to get hydoren economically is still big problem.

Hydrogen is, effectively, a very inconvenient battery. I would be surprised (and disappointed) if we ever saw hydrogen powered road vehicles in numbers.

Hi,

here is the Lockheed SST of 1980,and the studying for engine locations.
