Nice find.

Cranfield also designed a modernised Beverley sometime in the 1960s. They mated the fuselage to a new wing with turboprops with, I think, a Ro-Ro capability.

It was illustrated in an book on aircraft design I picked up in my local library several years ago. I managed to draw a rough sketch of the design but I can't remember the exact details now. Might have been designed to fulfill an RAF Specification.

Hi,

the Cranfield designed amazing supersonic V/STOL naval fighter in
1984,it was powered by two engined and had FSW (Forward-Swept-
Wing) configuration.
Notice also the Cranfield one million-pound freighter aircraft project.

We should keep in mind, that it's a university, not an aviation company or
a design bureau, so drawing up fancy designs probably is even easier, than for
companies, who have to earn money with it. ;)
But there were in fact several nice designs, e.g. for a supersonic transport, which
should reach M 2.2 (from Aviation Week 4/689, or strike/recce aircraft (from Flight
7/60) :

Hi,

the Cranfield A1-400 was light aircraft actually built and
the unbuilt projects were A-3 and ASTRA Hawk experimental
aircraft.

I have the original reports for a dozen or so of Cranfield College design projects (they were essentially group thesis projects), starting from late '50s to early '70s. Some have been posted here, some not. The projects were quite detailed, expecially from a structural point of view. If interested, I can starting post the 3-views and internal arrangement of all.

Hi,

the Cranfield A-3 twin boom aircraft.

Another cranfield project, this time a UCAV, designated U-99.
Interesting feature is theintended methode of weapon release :
The weapons bay is on the upper side, for attack the UCAV would
roll inverted.

The "T-84 model" picture seems real, not speculative... while Google does not find a first flight mention. Does someone know if it was completed and flown?
Nice twin-boomer anyway, thanks ;D

I am confuse,

in that report, they said that A-3 was UAV aircraft, but in Flightglobal as in
early of this topic, the A-3 was twin boom aircraft ?.

Also here is the BW-98 BWB aircraft and Eclipse UAV.

A few weeks before the opening of the Paris Air Show, we introduce you to the V10 SparrowHawk, a plane designed by Cranfield University with the help of engineers from MSC Aerospace Vehicle Design.

[first image attached below]

The SparrowHawk combines the advantages of an helicopter, vertical takeoff and top speed of 222kph, with aircraft features: 31.000 feet ceiling, 620kph top speed and loading capacity of 2.5 tons.

For this project the objectives were maximum efficiency and space optimization, therefore the tanks are placed in the wings with a specially designed structure.

Three architectures are envisioned, based on a RTM322 01/9A Rolls Royce engine

[second image attached below]

Because of the aircraft requirements and given the actual technologies an electric propulsion couldn’t be fitted now, nonetheless two alternative solution were studied, fuel cell and turboelectric.

From the two the Turboelectric was the most adapted solution, in this configuration the energy generated by the Rolls Royce RTM322 Turboshaft is sent to generators which convert it into electricity, the electrical system (cables, controllers and motors) is cooled through liquid hydrogen.

Cranfield University video of the Rawfeed rolling assisted wire-and-arc additive manufacturing process for producing titanium critical structural components for aerospace applications. Wire-fed welding torch lays down a bead of titanium, which is then cold-rolled to refine the grain structure and improve the mechanical propertes of the material. Airbus Group leads the Rawfeed project with Cranfield, Delcom and the University of Bath.
