The attached photo was discovered by the German author René Scheer (see also

and started some speculation in the German Flugzeugforum, as it came from the inheritance of the aircraft
designer Paul Klages, who had worked for Focke Wulf and Kurt Tank, amongst others.
Not very clear, but definitely it had to do with aviation ...
The solution to that riddle: It's the model of a jet sled, designed in 1953 to answer
a tender of the WLG, the "Wissenschaftliche Gesellschaft für Luftfahrt" (scientific
society for aviation). It should be used as a cheaper alternative to a superonic wind
tunnel, carrying a model at its nose. And Paul Klages even designed a special aircraft for
that task, surprisingly similar to this sled, a bit longer, with swept wings and lateral
air intakes, instead of the sleds chin intake.
This discovery led to a four-page article by René Scheer in the latest issue of the German
magazine "KLassiker der Luftfahrt", containing all relevant information, several photos and
colour drawings of the sled and the aircraft.
There are still lots of riddles out there, but this one is solved !

(Apologies, that I don't post those drawings, but I don't have any rights, it's from the current
number and certainly its highlight ! )
