Hi,

the Flygkompaniets Verkstäder at Malmen was formed in 1917/18,and as my dear
Apophenia spoke about some of its airplanes

All I know about it;

Dronten was a two-seat recce and light bomber biplane
S.18 was recce biplane of 1919
S.19 -----?
SW.20 was Albatros design built under licence,(not sure)
S.21 was a single seat recce and ambulance biplane
J.22 was a parasol wing single seat fighter of 1922,two fuselages were ordered
and three wings,in early 1923,it was redesigned as J.23
J.23 was a single seat parasol wing monoplane fighter
J.24B was a single seat biplane fighter, with more powerful engine
S.25 was a two-seat recce biplane,developed from S.21 with Mercedes engine
Trossen 120 & 160 was also a licence built Albatros airplane,no more details
Tummelisa was a single seat biplane trainer airplane
Triplane was advanced trainer triplane,no more details

Good work Hesham. FVM's full name is given variously as Flygkompaniets tygverkstäder Malmslätt or Flygkompaniets Tygverkstäder på Malmslätt - for Army Aviation Workshop at Malmslätt (ESCF, now called Malmens flygplats/Malmen Airbase).

FVM was renamed CFM (Centrala Flygverkstaden i Malmslätt) in 1926 when the Swedish Air Force was established. In 1936, CFM was renamed CVM (Centrala Verkstaden i Malmslätt).

I have no record of a FVM S 19 or S 22. I'm not familiar with the SW 20 but it would have been a product of Södertelge Verkstäder not FVM. Södertelge Verkstäder did make an Albatros B.II copy - the SW 12 of 1915, eight of which were built. Svenska Aeroplanfabriken and Nordiska Aviatikbolaget also built Albatros copies before FVM (the SAF 3 and NAB 9, respectively).

Great work my dear Apophenia, many thanks.

I have this as a model E.2 and I relatively sure it is F.V.M. Tummelisa was E.1 so that would match. This image is from 1927 L'Ala D'Italia. This must then be Swedish AF designation for the Phonix Dront?

Yes, E 2 was a Phönix Dront designation (as was E 1). As noted in reply #2, three service designations were applied to the Phönix Dront depending upon the engine type installed:

- E 1: For the Dront powered by a 220 hp Benz 6-cylinder
- E 2: For the Dront powered by a 300 hp Hispano-Suiza HS 8F V-8
- E 3: For the Dront powered by a 250 hp Isotta-Fraschini V.6 6-cylinder

These were not "Swedish AF" designations exactly, but were applied by the Flygkompaniet (the Army Signals Corps' Flight Company) which preceded the Swedish air force.

Once the Flygvapnet was established in 1926, new designations were applied to the remaining Phönix Dronts:

- E 1: Became the Flygvapnet's Ö 4 (for Övning or 'Advanced Trainer')
- E 2: Became the Flygvapnet's A 1 (for Attack)
- E 3: Became the Flygvapnet's Ö 5

FVM S 25 - 1924 FVM S 21 derivative, span 12.30 m, x 10
- FVM S 25: 1 x 260 hp Mercedes subsituted for Maybach
-- Originally ordered as 2nd batch of 20 x FVM S 21*
-- * Engine shortage forced change & new designation
