Very interesting, thank-you.

However, the post-war Naval Steam catapult had a different heritage, the designer took his inspiration from the slotted cylinder drive for Brunel's (and others - especially the Samuda brothers) atmospheric railways.

Sorry I am a bit late (6 years) ... How did you get to the conclusion that Cdr. C. C. Mitchell has found inspiration from atmospheric railways... I mean they existed, but where is a connection to C. C. Mitchell and steam catapults? Do you have any link..
On Wikipedia, and other Internet sites, you can find the connection to V-1 launch sites
"He joined the staff of MacTaggart Scott & Co in Loanhead on graduating and was promoted to Technical Director in 1931. His invention of aircraft arresting gear in 1931 brought him to the attention of the Admiralty. In the Second World War he served in the Royal Navy and reached the rank of Commander. He served as Engineer-in-Chief to the Admiralty. He was one of the investigating officers into the V1 launch sites. After the War he became Director of Brown Brothers & Co on Broughton Road in Edinburgh.[3] "
Or at Quora

Best regards

Since my internet host no longer displays my web pages correctly, I converted them to PDF files. Can be found at:
A new item is the development of a position determination of a V1 in flight (Dutch): 'peilen'

Hm. I always thought that Fi-103 launch catapult was some kind of piston-driven system:

Apparently there were several designs?
Two variants were initially built and tested in Peenemuende, a Rheinmetall-Borsig rocket powered catapult and a Walter steam catapult - the latter was eventually chosen for operational use.

Interesting "Le Fana de l'Aviation" article...

A "Hochdruckpumpe V-3"-like device to launch V-1 ?

The Germans have developed various catapult launch techniques using acceleration boosters for their Me 163 - Me 328 - Me 262 - Me 264 - Ar 234 projects.

That site is reported as a phishing/hacking site and having intrusive behaviour.

I tried one of @denzjos older links which gave the phishing warning.
Try one of the links here, they seem to be secure when opened in Firefox:
Best start at http://denzjos.rf.gd/V1_inleiding/V1_inleiding.html , at the bottom of that page there's a list of the other pages. Clicking on the list gets you nowhere, instead select link with mouse. My browser, on right-clicking the selected text, then offers options:
...et cetera
Use translate option in Firefox - or other browser? - to display text in your language of choice.
