JED site lists technology demonstrator and proposed 120mm mortar carrier, twin 30mm AAA, quad 27mm AAA, recce, DFS (anti-helicopter/anti-tank), "Air Warning" version, ICV, and cargo transporter versions.

Also note at the bottom of the page, drivetrain arrangement variations and silhouette comparions:

(Translation of the last link posted by Apophenia: The turret installation, shown on the two photos,
was a non-usable, not even turnable Leopard 2 prototype turret )

Just for those, who cannot read german : In the last link posted by Apophenia
it is said, that the turret installation, shown on the two photos, was a non-usable,
not even turnable Leopard 2 prototype turret
!

It also mentions that the installation was meant to accurately simulate turret weight. Presumably, Daimler bolted the more-or-less complete Leopard 2 prototype turret to the hull but never bothered to install a proper ring.

According to this, the EXF, along with the later GIAT VEXTRA, were direct ancestors to the Franco-German EVA (European Vehicle, Armoured) project [around 1990s].
