Did not know this had flown. Thought it was quietly cancelled.

Hmmm. Whoops:

"Key Points

FY 2016 budget accelerates testing and fielding of a rocket-launched MSST sprint vehicle capability to satisfy near-term test requirements
The MSST contract with Orbital ATK was modified in June 2015 to reflect this change: the revised technical solution is designated GQM-173B

The US Navy (USN) has firmed up plans to use a two-stage rocket system - based on existing Mk 70 Terrier and Mk 104 Lynx assets - to support near-term requirements for a Multi-Stage Supersonic Target (MSST) able to provide realistic threat representation in support of ship self-defence test and evaluation.

This move - which abandons original plans for a subsonic to supersonic stage transition - follows the failure of the GQM-173A aerial target system originally selected to meet the MSST programme requirement."

I did wonder why they were bothering to emulate the entire flight profile, as Sizzler is just another subsonic cruise missile before it launches the kill vehicle. (Though I'm not at all surprised that they failed.)
