Hi,

the Douglas Aircraft Company Inc. adopted a beautiful design
from C. S. Glasgow and C. C. Wood,it looked like Douglad XB-42
as mixed powered aircraft.

That was the Douglas XBT-30, later redesignated as XT-30. It was designed in competition with the T-28.

Specifications:
span: 36'4", 11.07 m
length: 36'10", 11.23 m
engines: 1 Wright R 1300
max. speed: 286 mph, 460 km/h

Strange to my opinion is, that this design absolutely resembles the Bell
X-22, which was launched in 1962, too. Did Bell payed a licence fee to Douglas ?
Is it actually a Douglas design ? If I look at the heading of the patent, I would
say yes, as good employees Mr.Walker and Mr.Young had to give the rigths to
their employer, but in hte references, "Doak" is mentioned ...
Well, to read such a patent is not always easy, I think ...
 
Jemiba - when you file a patent, you must have 'references' stated in your patent description filed to patent office - inventions patented already or descriptions of items of the common nature (i.e. from the public press). So this is a way Boeing name appears cited in cuckoo guy from Alabama patent for flying saucer, for example.

designs and that design for Douglas were the basis
for Bell X-22.

Indeed this is what I love about this site is that at least once a month an absolute gem appears. Until the above example showed up I had thought that the Bell series of four post ducted fans were the only extant effort(s). Thank you Hesham! The hunt is on.

My dear Jemiba,

I think you could be right,that I read again about the Bell X-22,there was
a competition for the US Navy in 1962 for aircraft with V/STOL capability,
and I suggest this was Douglas proposal.
