Recently I got this HA54 engine plan point book full digital image.(Dated in April 1944 by Nakajima aircraft engine design department)
I will report the detail of this this book little by little to you.

Accoring to this book, engine drawing in this book is not including first stage turbo charger or mechanical supercharger.
So Fugaku HA54 engine had two stage supercharger like bottom four pictures.
(Turbo charged P&W R-4360 WASP MAJOR engine)

The most diffficulr problem that HA54 engine faced was how to cool four layers radial air-cooled engine. Final cooling method was cooling by the forced cooling fan installed front of the engine, but other methods were also considered. For example...

The method to install air intakes related to an engine in the leading edge part of a main wing was adopted to Boeing B-17 bomber. The engineer of Nakajima Aircraft investigated B-17 which Japanese military captured, and maybe considered the possibility to adapt this method to Fugaku bomber.

B-29 and Renzan engine had another compact layout.
The part of the air poured from an air intake of the engine nacelle lower part in case of Renzan bomber is poured into a turbocharger. Remaining air is poured into an intercooler. The air poured into a turbocharger is compressed by the compressor driven by an exhaust gas turbine, and it becomes hot.
The air which became hot is cooled by an intercooler to improve the engine efficiency, and is supplied an engine with. Maybe a design of Renzan engine consulted B-29.

HA54 front cooling fan concept and aft cooling fan concept.
We can get the concept of engine cooling air baffle through these models, too.

Engine model pictures.
The fourth picture is excellent.
We can understand the concept of engine coolling air buffle.
We can see cooling air intake for the third and the fourth row of engine cylinders and cooling air outlet for the first and the second row of engine cylinders.

Perhaps we get some inspiration for HA54 engine concept from these engine test model pictures.
