Have any of you ever seen an official order and/or a directive dated 10 or 11 June 1948 that ordered the P for Pursuit prefix changed to F for Fighter, FP for Photo Pursuit changed to RD for Reconnaissance Fighter, etc,? Thanks in advance. -SP
 
Yes, that is reproduced in the appendix to "Buzz Number" by Peter M. Bowers and David W. Menard. It is T.O. 1-1-81, Appendix B, dated 11 June 1948.

The photo mission designators changed from "F" to [for example] "RB" (RB-17), "RC" (RC-45) or "RF" (RF-61) as applicable. FP-80 to RP-80 was not in this issue of the T.O. Further designation changes were announced in succeeding revisions to the T.O.
