Polish Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Tomasz Siemoniak and German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen signed a statement of intent to increase Polish-German army cooperation on the fringes of the annual Bundeswehr conference in Berlin on 29 October.

The agreement covers the following areas of cooperation worked out by the German army command and the Polish general command:

- at the brigade level, including placing combat battalions under each others' command;
- between the combat arms of both armies: armour, reconnaissance, mountain infantry and artillery;
- training and exercises, including joint courses for young officers and cadets; and
- greater interoperability, such as common standards and regulations.

Poland and Germany signed a similar agreement on naval cooperation in Rostock on 27 May 2013.

Don't think, that such cooperations are uncommon, especially not between countries,
that are directly adjacent. There are mutual schools and universities, why not widen
that to the military field ? And mutual training schemes and courses may even lessen
the amount of taxpayers money needed, an important argument today, as politicians
may be in Polish and German peoples good books then !

It's not a new concept at all -- there were a bunch of similar joint European units easablished inside NATO in the 80s and 90s. Today, there is still the Euro-Corps headquarters and at least a remnant of the Franco-German Brigade.
