For the OS-133 Air-To-Ground Guided Missile Specification,
Bell entered the D-163 Air-To-Surface Guided Missile
and Chance Vought entered the V-387 Air-To-Surface Guided Missile.

Here are a few images of the Chance Vought Proposal, a general arrangement,
and a couple of artwork pieces.

Four types of guidance were considered for the missile to meet the 30 foot CPE requirement.

Ballistic. Ballistic was considered with some aiming accuracy flight tests using the F7U-3 and
ruled out as the accuracy is about 4 mils and 2 mils is considered the upper limit allowable.

Homing Guidance was ruled out as no single system would be successful

Beam riding had estimated error due to jitter, bore-sighting and beam lag would amount to about 9 mils.

Command Control considered that human vision and intelligence must be employed for the weapon system
to work. Command control had three methods evaluated Unaided pilot guidance, Wagner Optical System and Television.

For the V-387 proposal they selected the Wagner Optical System. The WOS is an aided system. There is an optical system
that superimposes the target and missile and action automatically sends the correct signals to the missile to make it seek
the sight line.
