A number of good galleries on the net show the single M48 prototype with the early Shillelagh launcher gun.

I wonder whether if the gun launcher had been a success we would have seen the M48s used in the National Guard and by allies such as West Germany and Israel using the launcher.

I assume that the diifculties with the programme meant that no such tanks were considered.
 
I think you'll find they were test turrets, part of the T54 MBT experiments (no, not the Soviet one but the US Army vehicle with the unfortunately similar designation), rather than a proposed alternative armament for the M48. During the development of the T95 they seemingly swapped turrets around with gay abandon.
