Hi!
From Japanese wikipedia.
YS-11S (YS-11-4) was a short-take-off-and-landing type of YS-11.
This airplane carried four engines and the tail stabilizers were largely modified.
The range of this airplane was 900 km, and taking off and landing was possible for the runway of a 600-m class.
This airplane was planned in order to bid for the international competitive bidding(1970) of the STOL passenger plane used for the short distance city suburbs route of American Airlines.
The contents of a bid of international competitive bidding are as follows.
- The commuter airplane of 47 or more seats.
- No development costs.
- The purchase number of the aircraft were 20 to 300.
The makers which were chosen as the candidate were as follows
- NAMC (Nihon Aircraft Manufacturing Corporation)
-Hawker Siddeley
- Convair
-De Havilland Canada
- Mcdonnell Douglas
Someone please show me the result of this competition and the shape of other candidates.

Hi YS-11J!(wiki pedia)

Please try google or another translater. ;)

YS-11J is a regional jet type airplane of YS-11.
This airplane carries R.R./SNECMA M45H turbofan engine on a wing, and is converting the tail into the backswept wing.
The plan and advertising brochures of this airplane also remain.
The performance by which this airplane was planned is as follows.
Cruising speed 650 km/h, cruising range 2100 km, ceiling 7620 m

Thanks blackkite!
The YS-11J resembles the VFW 614 not just with regards to position of the engines,
but even would have used the same engine type.

Hi Jens!
VFW 614 is far smart aircraft. ;)

What strikes me, is the capacity of both designs. Whereas the YS-11 is credited with about 60 pax,
the VFW 614 had just a capacity of 40 !

Great designs and images!

What hesham calls the YS-12 is called the YS-11S or YS-11-4 in all Japanese sources provided by blackkite.

Was that an alternate designation? And if so, do we have a source for it? Or is only a typo?

Hi Super YS(YS-11EA).
YS-11 with T64-IHI-10 engine.
Japanese airline pilots said that YS-11 was a under power aircraft.

Sorry YS-11-4 is simply my mistake. I mean YS-12-4.
But I can't find the name of YS-12 in Japanese sources. :-[
