I know what you're thinking: so many forums have quiz games already... But have you ever wished you could take part in one of these forum quiz games, then realized you were not a member? I know I sure did!

And so, for all those among us who do not attend another aviation forum, it seems to me that the Secret Projects forum ought to give that possibility to its members to take part in a quiz game of its own... Especially if we consider the amount of collective knowledge our members possess, it is bound to be fun...

Quick rules:
  • Only one Mystery Aircraft per post.
  • Mystery Aircraft submission can consists of a image clipping (part of an aircraft) or an edited picture (markings erased or hidden for instance).
  • Use the reply # (top of each post) to identify a Mystery Aircraft. When you discuss that aircraft or suggest an answer, all participants may refer to that number for easier reference.
  • There is no need to wait for a mystery to be solved to submit a new one.
  • When a correct answer is given, it must be notified AND the original, unedited picture must be provided.
  • In case of unanswered mysteries, their authors must provide the correct answer within about 3 weeks.
  • Developments/discussions on an aircraft type do not belong to. If a type generates a lot of interest, it can be discussed elsewhere in an appropriate section/topic.
Only time will tell if the idea was a good one or not!

Have fun!

Well done richard! I didn't want to start with something too complicated... but I kind of expected a little more hesitation, first because the aircraft is far from its glory days look, but especially because it is not really standard (the cockpit is not seen where it should be in the clipping I posted because it was shortened — and in a rather crude way). Also note the completely weird addition of the letter "X" to the civil registration... but under the wing only!

Superior Airways converted this 2-seat trainer for hauling fish - photo by Larry Millbury, c 1961, possibly at Lakehead, Canada.

A Northrop N-3PB Nomad ?

Don't know where you got the name "Nomad" from (it was used only for the export version of the A-17 known as the Model 8A-5 or A-33) but it IS indeed a Northrop N-3PB, also known as the "Norse Seaplane."

Link to original image (too big for inclusion)

It would seem the Quiz Game thing is not really taking off (but then again, forum activity has been uncannily slow these past two weeks).

Here is another "mystery" aircraft for you. If you find the answer, please think of submitting your own picture to make the game move on a bit!

No. Wrong country. And, 'mystery machine' isn't a helicopter ;) .

Definitely not qualified for water landings. The quiz starts to make fun ;) .

No (see livery and window). Aircraft was designed for passenger transport. Now, this reduces number of candidates considerably
;) .

Baade 152 V5 ?
(I cheated a bit, by looking at your recent posts ;) )

You don't need to win to submit mystery aircraft here or to wait for someone else to do it!

Several mystery aircraft can be submitted by different people at the same.

Here is one for you guys (and gals, though I do wonder if the latter ever visit our forum...):

Hispano HA-100 Triana ?
http://kevsaviationpics.blogspot.fr/2013/03/hispano-ha-100-triana.html

Well done! Also known as the Messerschmitt Me 100.

I was kind of hoping someone would think along the lines of a T-28 variant... but that was counting without the great specialists of this site! ;D

First thing that comes to mind is a Grumman F4F Wildcat...
