A photo of the Myasishchev Cosmopolis XXI passenger spaceplane......

Not surprisingly, there has been no latest word on the status of the Cosmopolis XXI, and its possible that the passenger capacity of the Cosmopolis XXI (four passengers) may have been too inadequate for the project to win backing from Russia's space tourism industry, whose leaders emphasize increased passenger capacity as a means of reducing the cost of suborbital passenger spaceflight.

Given the challenges of adapting a derivative of Cosmopolis XXI for orbital spaceflight (e.g. thermal protection during re-entry), Cosmopolis XXI may be more useful as an intercontinental spaceplane that can be launched from an M-55 from Moscow so that it can fly to the US in just one hour.
