The I-18 (TsKB-25 HS.12Ycrs) high-speed interceptor fighter project from the mid-1935. Its differences from the I-17 were smaller wing (8.3 m span, 13.45 m2 area) and evaporative cooling system. Estimated takeoff weight was 1800 kg, maximum speed 507 km/h at 3380 m altitude. In December 1935 it was redesigned into TsKB-33 with larger wing (back again) and two retractable radiators, but none of them wasn't completed.

(From Krylia Rodiny No.11/1993).

Haven't noticed still yet, that the version on the very first post of this thread has a dorsal hook.
Was it intended to be used on Zveno ?

Yes, it was! A special version for this special purpose. Therefore it had not only dorsal hook, but also short wings (only 9.13 m2 wing area, 6.7 m span) and NO conventional landing gear!

The project was dated May 1936; maximum speed was estimated 530 km/h with standard 860-hp M-100 (at 3000 m altitude) and 562...575 km/h with more powerful 1000-hp version. Empty weight would be 1227 kg, flight weight 1716 kg. (From: Ivanov V.P. Aircraft by N.N. Polikarpov. - Moscow, Rusavia, 2004 (ISBN 5-900078-25-6). - Page 275).

Thank you !
Still to be used with the TB-3, I think.

Indeed, thanks Justo. But AFAIK, hooking on to the TB-3 was never tried aand actually it
already was a little bit outdated in the late '30s, I think.

Perhaps this is a No.3 prototype.
