Hi,

here is a little known motor-glider aircraft, the Grizodubov G-5,he created a four designs
pre-WW1,and it had a 12,15m span,6.0m length and powered by one 35 hp ADG-4 flat-
twin engine,that was in 1940.

I'd hate to sound paranoid, but sometimes it just feels the Soviets purposely tried to get us confused... ;D

Have you noticed how all the glider manufacturers had their names starting with "G" and how similar their designations were? Groshev, Grokhovskiy, Gribovskiy... and now Grizodubov!!

Yes,I do,but for Grizodukov, the first four aircraft was not called or given prefix "G".

Is there more information available on this glider (history, 3V drawing)?
I am also looking information on a glider designed by Vriagov & Ilin under the reference TsAGI-6.
Thanks in advance!

Hi Vince,

I just see your reply, but do you mean the word on its front fuselage ?.

On the fuselage of a stylized inscription: Stakhanovite = " Стахановец"
(stakhanovite – eponym: a Soviet worker exceptional in increasing production. ) https://ru.wikipedia.org/wiki/%D0%A1%D1%82%D0%B0%D1%85%D0%B0%D0%BD%D0%BE%D0%B2%D1%81%D0%BA%D0%BE%D0%B5_%D0%B4%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B6%D0%B5%D0%BD%D0%B8%D0%B5

Hexham- Yes, the sloping word.

borovik - if it is a stylised "Стахановец", I would never have guessed that.

Thanks both for your input

OK Vince,

and we want to see your 3-view drawing.

Will do, here is the beginning, but may be a while due other things. Still a few mods on the fuselage detail to do and tidy up the lettering as this is the first try

Gribovski G-11 Glider

The life of this aircraft, intended for transportation of 6 men and being planned at the same time as the G-9 in 1932, was rather short. In many respects the G-11 repeated the destiny of the earlier G-3 glider. As with the G-3, it had twin-fuselage layout but the main difference was spacious 3-seat enclosed cabins with doors in each fuselage.

The manufacturing of the G-11 was delayed and in 1933 the governing body of "Osoaviakhim" decided to stop it entirely, though the general completeness of the glider was estimated at the level of 80 %. A motorized transport variant, known as the M-11M was built in 1935. This powered version incorporated a 100 hp M-11 engine.

The designation was also used in some wartime papers in relation to the G-29 military assault glider design.

Sources:
Airplanes and Gliders of V.K.Gribovsky by Mikhail Maslov
Soviet Gliders by Rysov, U.A.
Bulletin of the Russian Aviation Research Group

Hello,

Do any of these sources give information on the presence of flaps or overall weights of this design?

Also, is there any record of where the engine was planned to be mounted? Was this related to the broader motor-glider transport program?

I'm finding this design hard to research given the overlap between this design and the more famous G-29/G-30/G-11M!

Thank you!

There is a section on the G-11/G-11M in Konstantin Kuznetsov's Stalins Russian Gliders 1930-1955 (Eksmo - ISBN 978-5-699-65622-6) Russian Language book along with a drawing of the motorised variant.

The only weights are for the G-11:
OPERATING EMPTY WEIGHT: 1,200 kg
MAXIMUM TAKE OFF WEIGHT: 2,400 kg

It is possible that the initial G-11M was re-designated G-30 where a production run was considered.

Great similarities between the artwork and the 3-view.

I am sorry, but I can't remember which Russian publication the G-30 3-view came from, but likely to be from a RARG Bulletin.

Some more from my notes:

The powered glider, designated as G-11M or G-30 was built and tested in the summer of 1942. There were plans to install, at a later stage, a more powerful MV-6 or two M-11 engines in the wings. In the latter case, it was thought a genuine small cargo aeroplane might evolve. The project had no further realization as the G-11 series production was ceased, initially, in 1942.

This is G-29 by Gribovsky's designation, which was adopted by the Army as the G-11 - in accordance with number of troops it could transport. hesham asked about another G-11, the earlier, twin-fuselage one which actually was Gribovsky's 11th design. Unfortunately I don't have its technical data.

Aha!

Just for clarity - I was referring to the earlier twin fuselauge G-11/M-11M design of 1932/1933 (carrying six people).

Whenever I try to research the G-11 of 1932 I get the later G-29/G-11 assault glider!

The information is still appreciated though. By the way, Borovik posted these lovely views of different G-30/G-11M design studies: http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,10105.msg190211.html#msg190211
