Due to Stéphanes post about the Kayaba Heliplane I looked through some files and found again
two Japanese VTOL testbeds. The first was designed by the Japan's National Aerospace Laboratory
and built by Fuji Heavy Industries. It was powered by two vertically mounted Ishikawajima-Harima
JR100F lift engines. The data should lead to a VTOL aircraft buiild on the basis of the Fuji T-1. Anybody
who has more information about this, or even a drawing ?
The other testbed was built by the Japanese Defence Agency's Institute of Technology. It was a two seater,
powered by a horizontally mounted Ishikawajima-Harima J3 engine, producing lift by bleed air ducted to
nozzles on either side of the fuselage.
(Both photos from Aviation Week March 1971)

Hi Jemiba :)
Very little to add on the NAL testrig. Width (span) 22.865ft (22.966ft?), length 32.808ft, height 9.842ft.
First free flight June 1970. It was capable of vertical t/o and landing and limited manoeuvring. It was later donated to the Kakamigahara Air Museum in Nagoya.

Thanks Walter !
The shape of the NAL thing seems to be clear, I think, quite similar to the RR "Flying bedstead",
a cradle with the two lift engines and for outriggers for the control nozzles.

But I still have difficulties to regognise the shape of the other testbed by just this front view.
the outriggers seem to be swept back, somewhat similar to the Fiat testrig for the G.95
(http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,851.msg14851.html#msg14851 ), but I
may be totally wrong.

Anyone know what happened to this project? Too ambitious?

Good question;and maybe here is the answer from 1973
