Does the circular/disc-shaped wings offer any aerodynamic advantages. The front portion does look and appears to function like a LERX, not sure about the rear portion.

Yes. I believe these designs are the same as the Eurasia/Mukhamedov designs? It was originally a light combat aircraft called project "Integral", then a scaled up fighter using the wing was pitched as "Vityaz-2000"/I-2000 and eventually some of the information was used in Iran as part of the "Shafagh" light attack aircraft/trainer program.

When the pictures first appeared I wrote a long argument at ACIG arguing that it was a high-AoA design (primarily based on the vertical cross section). Then Overscan posted this excerpt from another article:
http://www.aeronautics.ru/archive/aeronews/conv/article_May_2001_27_106.htm

The wing supposedly allows the design to sustain controlled flight at fifty degrees angle of attack without using thrust vectoring (while remaining relatively efficient in high speed cruising flight). In any case it is a very interesting design.

Does anyone have more information on the various variants?

Hi, Avimimus!
You are absolutely right - this is Mukhamedov design. With this project he has worked in many russian design bureau, include Mysishchev DB.
I have detailed info about only 5 or 6 variants of this aircraft.
If you need, contact me directly.
Regards

Reprimand to the ground crew! They have forgotten to remove the red cover from the AAM! So the heatseeker of the missile cannot find any target. ;D

Hi folks,
this thread should be pinned as "The Thread Of The Month"! :)
While searching through the net about more info about Myasishchev DB projects, I found the site "http://www.spaceavia.com" with nice color illustrations of other Myasishchev DB projects like
  • Myasischev M-18 (variable-geometry wing, supersonic bomber project; dropped in favour of the Tupolev Tu-160 program)
  • Myasischev M-80
  • Myasischev M-20 (different versions)
  • Myasischev AKS-2
  • Myasischev M-90

Hi all!

A question to German forum members.

While searching in MDB archieve, I have found two sheets of drawings of large cargo aircraft specially designed for Germany. It was in April of 1994. 15 years has passed ad now even Mr. Pogodin (Chief of general configurations Dept. at that time) doesn't remember for whom they were doing this design. There were some articles about MM-1 joint German-Russian project in newspapers and magazines in both countries, maybe it is possible to find something about these projects also? Will be very grateful to any assistance.

This is the Ecolifter design. Two different layouts, the IC (Intercontinental?) and EU (Europe?) variant, have been investigated. Both models survived in Bavaria. I've sent the contact address to ucon. So I hope we'll see details in one of his forthcoming Myasishchev books or here in the forum ;) .

Shots were made at ILA'94. Sorry for the bad quality.

Re: Myasischev Experimental Bomber Display Model

On Panchenko models the cockpits seem to be more detailed, that means,
windows/frames are recognisable (at least in most cases of the current program).

Re: Myasischev Experimental Bomber Display Model

An iteration of the OKB-23's M-56, or so it seems...

Why don't you copy-paste the text from the page into Google Translator to find out? Sure, the translation is far from perfect, but it gives some clues...

Your picture (and the odd box wing you started a topic about) can also be found here:
https://www.litmir.co/br/?b=188716&p=53

From what I understand basically, MAI was asked to conduct preliminary studies for Belokon and Myasishchev. The EMZ (Myasishchev) design was for a "better Rutan Voyager", one that could perform such long endurance flights on a regular, everyday basis, and not just as a record-setter. It would offer a roomier cockpit and possess oxygen equipment in the cockpit, as the lack thereof was considered as Voyager's main drawback. The aircraft was to be a twin-boomer, since that configuration had been successfully flown in the M-17 and M-55 designs, and to have the following characteristics: wingspan - 31.88 m; fuselage length 9.5 m; weight: - 5300 kg, with about 4000 kg for oil.

The planned route was to be as follows: Moscow - Odessa - Bosphorus - Gibraltar - Panama - Indonesia - Red Sea - Iran - Caspian Sea - Moscow, for a total length of 40,500 km in 7 days. The capacity to built "a better Rutan" was judged uncertain by the author of the article because the Soviet Union was not familiar with construction using new composite materials (being used to conventional isotropic construction, with equal strength in all directions).

Thank you Skyblazer,

I used the google translate for this text, but I felt it had a bigger story than that.

It seems that the original source (reproduced on several web pages) was this book for children:

Hi! M-25.

"Theoretical and experimental studies have shown that supersonic aircraft existing schemes and sizes can create when flying at supersonic speeds at heights of 30-50 m shockwaves with pressure drop p = 500 + 1000 kg / m2. What this means in simple human language? But that - after the passage of such an aircraft as a result of the shock of the sound wave from the impact of any living organism there is a rupture of blood vessels with instant death. Comments, as they say, are unnecessary.
The work continued until 1972, have been worked out five basic configurations of the aircraft M-25, the fifth embodiment has a fuselage length of about 100 m!
In wind tunnels (T-112, T-113) and ITAM (T-313) were purged model, the first results. Topic closed in 1972 and over 35 years of material of this work were classified as "Top Secret". "

strategic bomber
""32" "Supersonic Bomber" M-32 with four turbojet engines VD-5 was the first initiative proposal OKB-23 V. Myasishev (1952 g.- just one year after the organization EDO) to create a supersonic aircraft. The crew of 5 people. At take-off weight of 180 tonnes of its cruising speed should be up to 1100-1200 km / h, while the maximum - 1,350 km / h. It was expected that the range will be in the range 7000-8000 km and a ceiling of 14-15 km.
In fact, it was one of the first attempts to create a transonic machines, which would realize the advantages of aerodynamic performance at speed corresponding to the number of M = 1. It should be noted that this idea back in the 1970s. It was quite a difficult task associated with a strict regime by keeping the given flight. Not getting the job, the OKB-23 ceased to work in this direction. "

"Following the "supersonic" the M-32, on the initiative of the OKB-23 V. Myasishev developed supersonic bomber "34". The maximum speed of 1,850 km / h, service ceiling of 19350 meters and the range of 8700 km. Designing discontinued due to lack of jobs. "
