an offspring of Russian Helicopters PSV (Advanced High-Speed helicopter Program), debuted at Farnborough 2012
less ambitious in terms of maximum speed than original PSV claims of 400-450 km/h (350-370 km/h, last figure making 'V-37' designation), more affordable - higher speed made not by additional propulsors, but by sleek shapes and new proprietary main rotor design
should replace Mi-8/17 family in <uncertain> future, along with heavier Mi-38 pretending to fight for some market sector
TOW 10-12 tons, payload of 3-4 tons, 21-24 PAX salon, SAR, patrol and MEDEVAC versions proposed

"D'you like our owl?" (Rachael)
"Is it artificial?" (Deckard)
"Of course it is." (Rachael)
"Must be expensive." (Deckard)
"Very. I'm Rachael." (Rachael)

... are you intimating this is an expensive illusion?

Owl was real, Al (though it was mechanical)
In fact, program gains funding. the question is will be final product(s) so advanced and speedy as it was proposed back in 2008

Is this helicopter supported by a Western company? I remember shortly reading about AgustaWestland...

Doesn't the designation translate to Advanced Medium Speed Helicopter? If so, it would perhaps indicate that the more radical previous concepts aren't dead but merely delayed.

PSV - Perspectivny Skorostnoy Vertolyot = Advanced High-Speed Helicopter
RACHEL...you know

Yeah, but take-off.ru says...
Пожалуй, главной новинкой холдинга "Вертолеты России" на нынешнем авиасалоне в Фарнборо можно признать впервые демонстрируемую публично на стенде компании модель Перспективного среднего скоростного вертолета (ПСВ) В-37.
... as in the RVV-SD medium range AAM, for example. That's what got me thinking. Typo?

It means Advanced Medium High-Speed Helicopter
it's known for a while that PSV was planned in three different sizes - PSV-1/2/3

Ok, it's referring to the size of the airframe - that explains it.
Thanks!

The work is at very early beginning, they are just shaping the concept. Focused primarily for the Russian market and civil sector.

I realize it is a concept model, but it seems a bit smaller than a Mi-8/17/171. Looks like it could a b good compeditor for the NH-90 and UH-60/92.

In the news: http://www.flightglobal.com/news/articles/russian-helicopters-schedules-first-flight-of-high-speed-type-for-2018-389642/

...A flying testbed is being built around a Mil Mi-35 to validate systems that Petrov believes will translate into a 10t-class machine capable of carrying 21-24 people at a cruise speed of 195-205kt (360-380km/h). Comparatively, AgustaWestland's 30-passenger AW101 boasts a cruise speed of 150kt...

Wonder if a AW-101 optimised for high speed could reach 216kts (400km/h) like the G-LYNX with its first generation BERP-Rotorblades already did 27 years ago ;)

"Russia to begin production of new high-speed helo in 2022"
Gareth Jennings, London - IHS Jane's Defence Weekly
01 September 2015

Russia is to begin production of a new helicopter that will be capable of speeds of up to 270 kt (500 km/h; 310 mph) in the early part of the next decade, state media reported on 1 September.

Development of the high-speed helicopter is progressing well, with a prototype expected to make its maiden flight in 2018, the TASS news agency quoted Commander-in-Chief of the Russian Aerospace Forces Colonel General Viktor Bondarev as saying. Serial production should begin in 2022, he added.

Commonly referred to as the Russian Advanced Commercial Helicopter (RACHEL), this new high-speed platform is being developed by the Mil and Kamov design houses as an eventual replacement for the Mil Mi-8/17 'Hip' series. Although billed in its moniker as a commercial project, it has obvious military applications with many hundreds of Mi-8/17s serving today in Russia and beyond.

A flying testbed is reportedly being built using elements of the Mi-35, but with a slightly altered fuselage and rotor system, to prove the speed parameters of the new design.

Both the Mil and Kamov bureaus involved in the RACHEL project have been working on potential Mi-8/17 replacement platforms in the Mi-38 and Ka-92, respectively. While the Mi-38's conventional helicopter design is very similar to that of the Mi-8/17, the Ka-92 has a more radical co-axial compound design with a pusher-propeller. Though the configuration of RACHEL has yet to be publically revealed, it will likely incorporate elements of both, with the high-speed elements coming largely from Kamov.

The Mi-38 has a maximum speed of 173 kt (320 km/h; 199 mph), while that of the Ka-92 is reportedly 216 kt (400 km/h; 249 mph). The RACHEL project will build on this with an even greater top speed that is comparable with that of the US-built Bell-Boeing V-22 Osprey tiltrotor (274 kt; 509 kp/h; 316 mph).

Level of journalism lately at Jane's.../skipped/

Borisov vas talking not of PSV, but of UVK - military attack helo. When Russian Helicopters gave up with achieveng 500 km/h for civil chopper on basis of current TRL/cost/profit rates, no one said military gave up for this figure.

Thank you for the response, flateric.

Borisov said that both are competing.

So to be clear, the news last week that high speed rotorcraft work was being put on hold, only applies to civil rotorcraft efforts?

Exactly. Plus, RH and TsAGI are working on a family of unmanned/manned tiltrotors/tiltwings for civil and military applications.
I hope to make an open sources based article on Russian high-speed rotorcraft efforts for an upcoming AHS Vertiflite.

Don't tease me like that. :D
Looking forward to it.
