First of all, OKB-32 is not the aircraft's designation... "OKB-" indicates the number assigned by the authorities to the design bureau.

As to the artwork itself, it is reminiscent of Josef Gatial's work, but even more so of the AvicoPress paintings: http://www.avicopress.ru/

Bonjour Stephane

Si je regarde le livre "OKB Ilyushin" de Yefim Gordon dans la rubrique
des bombardiers je ne trouve qu'une mention d'un appareil monomoteur
Le il 56 mais cela n'est juste qu'une idée !!!!!

TRANSLATION: When looking at Yefim Gordon's OKB Ilyushin book under "bombers"
I can only find one mention of a single-engined type, the Il-56, but it's just a thought!!!!

toura,

as a courtesy and for the benefit of the generally English speaking membership of this site, I would kindly request to either stick with English in making public postings that include substantive information or take to private messages when using other languages.

Thanks,

Martin

Thanks in advance for a short answer! :)

Beatiful pictures, any source of data or drawing,
thank you ,

Ucon posted two Il-56 drawings here:

Second design is similar with different intake design so likely another Il-56 version. There are known to be 5 configurations.

"Simultaneously with the construction and testing of the Il-54 experimental bomber, Ilyushin OKB conducted research to determine the configuration of the new supersonic tactical bomber that received the IL-56 index. These works were started in connection with the decision of the Central Committee of the CPSU and the government of March 28, 1956. In particular, it was said that OKB Ilyushin and the Ministry of Aviation Industry submitted in June 1956 proposals for a deadline for the construction of a prototype and the beginning of flight tests.
The main technical requirements included the maximum speed of the machine 1,7-1,9M, the normal bomb load in 2000 kg and the range of 2200 km. The ceiling was supposed to be within 14000-15000 m, and the take-off weight - 23000-24000 kg. The proposals for the power plant included a single-engine configuration with an AL-7F engine and a two-engine configuration with the then-designed Mikulin AM-11 engines with an afterburner.
As a result, the designers chose a twin-engine configuration. IL-56 was a two-seater high-wing with low-lying horizontal tail and a bicycle-type chassis. Semicircular air intakes with a moving central body in the form of a half-cone were placed on top of the fuselage at the junction with the wing. The wing sweep angle was 45 ° and 55 ° in various variants. Experiments with the models were carried out in the wind tunnel of TsAGI in 1955 and 1956. But in early 1956 work on this project was stopped and efforts were concentrated on the creation of a heavy cruise missile."

I think these two side drawings shows single engine type Il-56 and twin engine type Il-56.
But I feel these shapes are little strange, especially air intake position.???

Note AM-11 was the earliest version of the R-11-300, completed under Tumansky after Mikhulin was dismissed.

Thanks a lot. I feel following drawing shows natural solution for single engine type and twin engine type.
Single engine type.(But just a thought? No bombardier window at the nose and small room for fuel.)

Three engine type existed? This drawing is a enlarged one based on Ucon-san's contribution.
But this drawing is little strange for me,too. ???
(1) I can't see engines which must be located under the wing in side view drawing.
(2) Front view drawing is little strange, too. I can't see cockpit.
(3) Middle engine air intake shape is hard to understand for me.

Hi! Il-56 and Tu-98.(Not same scale.)
This Il-56 front view forgot to add wing fence.
Il-56 had bicycle type landing gear, so nose landing gear had extension mechanism same as Il-54?
I feel Tu-98's base was Il-56.
Il-56 engine : R-11 (Diameter ; 906mm, thrust ; 13,635lbf with A/B)
Il-98 engine : AL-7F(Diameter ; 1300mm, thrust ; 20,900lbf with A/B?)
