Apparently the Chinese won't be exporting the J-20, contrary to many people's expectations.

Not surprised to hear that it will not be exported as that's what the J-31 appears to be for.

Why ??? ... only since there are a few Chinese characters added as a watermark !?? IMO it looks a bit blurred since the original image is most likely much larger and was then resized.

But overall again why, there have been several images showing both aircraft during the last weeks.

It's a Carlo Kopp article, so I would take it with spoonful of salt. That said, the analysis has some interesting sources in the citation, so it's quite helpful in that regard.

Original source was off a supposed leak from Chinese BBS. In other words, it informs us, but only tentatively.

OMG! That article is so filled with 'bovine scatology' as to defy description.
 
Those writers who leave out the operational environment/context of use and concept of operation and boil it down to a simple: this plane is faster, has a better radar and has new engines so it is better than the other plane, are totally annoying.

Not sure why I missed the latest updates ...

1. '2015' has been transferred to a PLAAF-test unit in Northern China and some assume this to the FTTC at Cangzhou and not - like all previous aircraft to the CFTE at Xi'an-Yanliang (which is usually referred to as being in the Northwest).

2. Quite surprisingly '2013' remained at CAC and now I think we know why !!! ... it has been modified to the latest '2015' configuration including the darker gray part on the radome and most of all the same modified tail stingers !

So I think we can expect its transfer to the FTTC (or CFTE) soon ... and then let's show us '2016' !

3. Also it seems as if it the J-20-avionics testbed - a modified Tu-204C - has received a few more modifications .... looks like a wing-like structure on top of the front fuselage similar to the B757 F-22 testbed !

Hope for more soon.

Is it just me or does China appear to be making much more progress with their J-20 than Russia does with their T-50? ???
 
But unfortunately the same inadequate engines, unless there has been some amazing progress on the WS-15. ;)

And at the end of the day a shell is still a shell.

Yes indeed ... that tarpaulin however makes it looking like a blended airframe. But You are correct, the more I look at this image, the more it simply seems to be a Flanker-airframe ... however what version ??? Maybe the J-11D for static testing. What?

Looking at the tail cone shape and position, i think it's a J-15.

It's the J-11 original display at aviation museum in Ta-t'ang-shan, the aircraft will be remove from the museum......

That is a crazily beautiful aircraft. As for the differences, yep, have to agree, a more angular intake set up.

Nah, probably just a patch of lighter-coloured RAM coating the same bump geometry as before, similar to the F-35. As for the engines, nothing about those images suggests they are different other than in colour as well, but better photos will soon reveal the truth, I expect.
 
Is there any indication or idea of when the WS-15 engines might be introduced into the programme?

Most likely YES, but I still have that feeling that it is a bit bumpier ...

I also agree.
Assuming there hasn't been manipulation of the pics, the DSI definitely looks different to my eyes.
I don't want to hastily leap to conclusions on such scanty detail, but wonder if this possibly indicates a different engine, or something a bit more mundane?
 
I don't think the DSI bump is reshaped, the original shape is just about visible inside. The shading looks odd across the region- it looks like the DSI area is coated with a different paint with different optical properties and that paint extends past the edge of the bump a bit in all directions. Maybe the same lighter metallic-looking coating used on the tail edges?

According to rumours, it's just finished platform testing, which means it's still a while's off.
