Re: The Piaggio model shop

Any idea of the source? Could be a workshop at Consolidated Aircraft in the late 1930s. The bomber at the front is pretty consistent with a Liberator, and a couple more designs resemble Consolidated projects of the time.

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Nice find Hesham. I'm guessing the photo is of a model maker's shelves. It is a fascinating collection -- are there any other views available?

Stéphane is right about the B-24 but I'm pretty sure that this isn't a Consolidated workshop. Captured B-24 data was shared amongst Italian makers and I think that this is a mostly Piaggio collection.

Offhand, I see the Piaggio P.50-I (bottom, left), P.50-II or P.133 (bottom, 2nd left), P.123 (bottom centre), P.114 (middle, centre), P.119 (rear fuselage - middle, right), CRDA Cant Z.515 (top right), P.108C (top centre/left), and the P.112 (top centre/right).

I'm wondering if the twin to the left of the P.114 floatplane might be a rounder-nosed variation on the P.111. I'm also curious about the Fokker-ish looking twin-engined floatplanes -- might one of those be the P.110?

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Feel free to tell me if it's just me, but don't the models look like they are intended for wind tunnel tests? That might indicate (again, as I see it) that the models do not necessarily correspond to an actual aircraft. Some or all may have been intended "merely" to test particular airframe configurations?

Regards & all,

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Hi folk,
the collection of wooden model belong to the Piaggio experimental shop, near the wind tunnel test facility in Finale Ligure Marina /Northern Italy, about 45 miles west of Genoa. I think all the wind tunnel test models, or a large percentage of them, are Piaggio models

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Congrats Apophenia on the correct identification! I must admit I know very little about Italian aircraft, so I really couldn't be of much help on this one.

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Thank you my dears very much,

I will remember the source, but one aircraft looks like Boeing B-17 ?! .

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Yes,

all of them are Piaggio aircraft and projects,I will check about the source.

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Hi,

the source is; Air and Space magazine of 1994.

Re: The Piaggio model shop

Thanks for the source Hesham.

So, if these are all wind tunnel models, do we assume that Piaggio was testing the B-24 form strictly as a comparison with its own 4-engined bomber designs?

Hi,

I change the title to can but a more Piaggio Projects, here is the Piaggio P.132,the
P-132 was a single seat fighter developed from P-119 with Piaggio P.XV RC.60 engine.

My poor mechanical translation

The project P.132 returned to the well-known p.119 engine stellar Piaggio XV RC 60-2V, but this time he was placed in front classic hull. It was expected to reach a maximum speed of at least 600 km / h. Extremely strong for Italian standards was supposed to be weapons complex of four plots Mauser MG 151 caliber 20 mm in the wings and a further two plots MG 151 machine guns and two Breda-SAFAT caliber 12.7mm in hull, between the engine and the cockpit. In addition to performing tasks hunting P.132 had also serve to attack ground targets and surface ships. Its specifications are not known.

They are all Piaggio Projects, and They are wind tunnel models.
I hope they are still there somewhere

I recognized some of the aircraft

I'd bet that P 119 is the one between P108 Hydro and P 133, but some doubt remains.

I see three more seaplane models except P.117 and p.114.
Candidates are as follows?
(1) P-18 floatplane recce aircraft project,to compete IMAM Ro.43
(2) P-20 floatplane recce aircraft project,to compete IMAM Ro.43
(3) P-109 twin-engined recce shipborne floatplane to 1938 competition
(4) P-110 long range maritime strategic recce floaplane, intended to compete Fiat RS.14
(5) P-124 floatplane project to requirements of July 1939 and May 1940

I know this has been said several times before, but it is USELESS to re-share pictures from other topics, blackkite. And it takes up unnecessary space on the server.

If you want to refer to an existing image, just right-click on its thumbnail, select the option to copy the image's URL, then click the icon that's furthest left (the Mona Lisa) and paste that link. The image will appear within your text, which is even better!

Top center candidates are as follows?
P-118 single seat fighter similar in configuration to USA Bell P-39
P-129 single seat fighter developed from P-119 with Daimler Benz DB-605 engine
P-132 single seat fighter developed from P-119 with Piaggio P.XV RC.60 engine

Also I can see some twin engine land aircraft.(Left end No.2 from the top, middle, etc))
Cndidates are as follows?
P-111 twin-engined high-altitude research aircraft of 1938
P-121 commercial transport landplane (8-seat) with two IF Delta RC.35
P-122 twin-engined dive bomber to compete Breda Ba.201
"In 1939, a new contest for a dive bomber was called, requiring a single-engine aircraft with a maximum speed of 500 km/h (310 mph), or 450 km/h (280 mph) if twin-engined, capable of carrying 500 kg (1,100 lb) bombs, with an endurance of 1,200 km (750 mi) with a single engine, or 2,400 km (1,490 mi) with two engines. There was only one twin-engine proposal, the Piaggio P.122, which despite its all-metal construction, dorsal-wing airbrakes, two Piaggio P.XI R.C.40 engines giving a total of 1,491 kW (2,000 hp), and the lack of competitors, was considered unfit for service and was unbuilt.
Two single-engined types were proposed, the Caproni Ca.355, a single seat derivative of the Ca.335 light bomber that first flew in January 1941 and the Breda Ba.201."

P-128 torpedo bomber lansplane (two P.XI RC.35)
P-131 military multipurpose landplane (two unspecified 1.000 CV/HP)

Some Piaggio bomber projects had rearward facing propellers, like the post-war P 166 and P 180 avanti.
(a la B 36, to be clear)

Oh!! So candidates are as follows?
P-128 torpedo bomber lansplane (two P.XI RC.35)
P-131 military multipurpose landplane (two unspecified 1.000 CV/HP)

I find this. Enjoy.
