Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

Thank you my dear Borovik,

they are completely new aircraft to me.

Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

Anatolyi,

great!!! I have no words for you! Excellent data on this impressive projects. I dare to recognize that I (almost) love soviet aircraft as much as german ones. But soviet ingenuity was greater! they did a great deal of research before WW2. Many thanks, Borovik.

Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

Anatolyi,

the DIS-2 project depicts an annular radiator, so I think, but with gills!!! Was it a TsIAM, OKB or Mikulin solution?

Thanks

Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

Hey great find borovik!!

I can't say that I have heard of the Kocherigin OKB/bureau before, let alone the interesting IT 2 or DIS 2 designs either ;D

Thanks for sharing!!!

Regards
Pioneer

Liquid-cooled engine AM-37 had a circular oil cooler (in front of the engine nacelles) with frontal air intake. Water-cooler have been sliding, and placed in the center section of the wing. Their development belongs to DB Kochirigin’s.
Was created full-size mock one nacelle and cockpit crew.

Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

The thing that I find most striking is the use of a glass nose to cut down drag (presumably at the cost of a relatively unprotected pilot).

Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

How does a glass nose reduce drag? If anything, I'd think that a multi-paneled greenhouse, such as the ones illustrated above, would increase drag due to the inevitable gaps and misalignments between the many pieces when compared to a few pieces of formed sheetmetal.

Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

really interesting : so Am-37 variant remind me the family of Junkers 88 (188/288/388) for the form of the canopy !

Hey Anatoliy,

any photos?
Cheers

Re: Heavy fighters by S.Kocherigin

Taildragger, my assumption is that the 'greenhouse' would keep a good field of vision, without having to add a 'razorback' canopy for the crew (which would otherwise be necessary given the small fuselage size).

Responding to a personal message to Wurger,
perhaps this topic is heavy fighters of little-known bureau,
will be interesting and different.

In OKB-293 V.Bolhovitinov in parallel with the construction of short-range bomber "S" was carried out design of high-speed heavy fighter with tandem engines M-107 and common to all variants (at the stage of preliminary design), the designation "I". Dealt with different layout options for pulling and pushing coaxial screws, using with an additional ramjet engine /designs by I. Merkulov / or without ... [Aircraft in the USSR 1917-1945, Book 2, the publishing division of TsAGI. pg.429] briefly about one of the options

In OKB-81 by L.Kurbala except project escort fighter:
http://www.secretprojects.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,5362.0.html
Kurbala 'IS'
proposed project is twin-engined fighter with two diesel engines, located inside the fuselage, with a drive to the two screws at the front edge of the wing.
__________________________________________________________
According to V. Shavrov "History of aircraft construction in the USSR. 1938 - 1950." pg.120
G. Bakshaev in 1941 on the basis of "RK-I” has developed a twin-engine version of the original high-speed interceptor "RK-I-2" with tractor and pusher propeller. Another specific feature of this project was variable wing configuration similar to the "RK-I” or (RK-800)
__________________________________________________________
Also about seven projects twin-engined fighter aircraft in the period from October 1940 to March 1944 was designed OKB by P.Sukhoi . But this is a topic for another discussion, and Sukhoi Design Bureau difficult to attribute to a little-known (which can not be said of his heavy fighters of the period)

Some nice and interesting finds borovik!!
Thanks for sharing ;D

It's probably luck for the Russian's that they never persuade the Grushin Gr-1 design!
For I could picture a lot of Russian Gr-1's being shot down by fellow Russian fighters and AAA, being mistaken early in the war as Bf-110's

Great find Borovik.

Maybe I should do a Russian profile set in the near future.

The third one down, the Kocherygin DIS-2 AM37 reminds me of the Junkers 188/288 (?)

Yes, the canopy reminds me family of Ju-88 , on Google Images i have seen (some seconds ago) various canopy and seems very similar to Junkers 288/388 :p

I must say, this looks like a Me-110 done right. Presumably must have been inspired by it?
