Re: Focke Wulf - 'Shnellbomber' (1942)

Very interesting Borovik,

Such a design would have comparable performance to enemy fighters. Even if the fighters could get into an intercept position, the bomber could turn away and easily force the fighters to attack from the rear. This would make the enemy fighters very vulnerable.

This seems to be recognised by the designers as well - since the turret has such a limited range of motion. It is interesting to see that they figured out this principle.

It would be interesting to calculate performance figures for these designs.

Thanks for posting, Borovik! :)

Dear mods, please change the topic title to "Schnellbomber", before I get eye cancer. :p

Apologize
My German teacher, today turned over in his grave.

Alas for thirty years without practice. ((

Hi,

it was from P.222 series,we know only four designs,P.222.001,P.222.004,
P.222.010 and P.222.018,the missing numbers are unknown.

This would be a good job for Flitzer to go to work on.

Good idea John. ;D
I'll see what I can do, once I've got my current set finished.

seems based on core of Focke Wulf-154 or am i in mistake ? ???

I think thats looks like more a Fw 191 - specially the first drawing!

Hi all...
I'm about to start.

Of the two designs which is the 'C' and which is the 'D'.

Forgive me if it's obvious ;)

P

Indeed I've made a start; of the cranked wing version first.

As usual, corrective critique or additional detail info truly welcomed and appreciated.

Many thanks

Hi all...
a bit of confirmation please...

looking at the cutaway side views both versions would have had 2 crew members, am I correct?

I'm pressing on with these two now.
Many thanks
P

You're correct ! You can find it on the data sheets in Boroviks post #5:
"Besatzung 2 Mann 180 kg" . So, Hermann Göring surely didn't qualify
as crewmember . ;D

...also he does not fit into this narrow cockpit ::)

I sort of like this version... It's a bit like the evolution of the Blenheim in reverse!! (MkI glazed to MkIV stepped nose). Aah, Luftwaffe bombers. If the Germans had built all this stuff and won the war, they could have sold off the nose sections surplus as greenhouses... B)

So that's how the post-war European tomato industry got off the ground?

Excellent cartoon Justo. ;D

Latest statuis.

Nearly there. A few bits and bobs to sort it.
What next? Do I do the other Schnellbomber or get stuck in to the 'fresh-in' Stukas? It never rains but it pours... ;D
Comments on a postcard...

Excellent work :)
I do like the gull-wings version a bit more then the straightwing version :)
Also I like that you can see into the cockpit, that adds a lot more realism to the drawing.
