Hi 3-side view and other view of Z-plane.
I feel dihedral is little small and main landing gears are little strange. It's difficult to accommodate.

Hi blackkite san these are very good photos and pics of the Fugaku!
Isay again the USA has all the luck of the world that japan hasnt the time to develop this awsome bomber further, and that the japanese has not the bomb in time.
Otherwhise they were facing a atomic respomse on maybe San Francisco and Los Angeles for bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki
best regards T-50

Z-Plane or better G10N1 Fugaku et similars !
Really nice civil variant : but i don't know if that's a speculation or really inspired by projects for also a civil variant !

Hi. Good question!!
The team which constructing this model got the real Chikuhei's blue prints of this transport version that discovered by Mr.Shoda(Shoda enterprise) in 2008.  Chikuhei and the Fugaku project team members had the dream to travel around the world by this transport after the war.

Hi! May be so.G5N was designed based on DC-4E.
It's true that Japanese aviation had no experience to design such a big aircraft at the day.

Hi! G5N1 Shinzan. Sorry off topic.

By any chance was coastal mine-laying one of the intended roles for the Shinzan? And was the 4,408-8,816 lb bomb-load projected or realised?

Hi I can't find any Shinzan's coastal mine-laying role by Japanese internet site. Shinzan was used as a torpedo carrier to the southern front. It could carry two 95- shiki submarine use torpedos(3,330kg total).  93-shiki torpedo was more heavy.

http://www52.tok2.com/home/BByamato/heisou.html
魚雷 means torpedo.水上艦艇用 means for ships, 航空機用 means for aircrafts, 潜水艦用 means for submarines.

"It could carry two torpedo(3,330kg total)"

Then one torpedo would have had a weight of 1665 kg, quite heavy for an aerial
torpedo, i think. Was a special type envisaged for the Shinzan ?

The answer probably is, that, as blackkite wrote, the 95- shiki torpedo was
a type principally used by submarines. But such a torpedo surely cannot just
be used as an aerial torpedo with intensive modifications. Maybe the Shinzan
was intended just for torpedo transport and not torpedo attack ?
It takes a long time, before all mistakes are made ...

Hi! Of course torpedo transport role only. It's impossible for low performance Shinzan to attack ships by torpedo. ;D
I think submarine torpedo transport by Shinzan was good idea, too. Because it's not necessary for submarine to return Japan to charge torpedo.
It's safer and faster than the surface transport. The weight of Submarine torpedo was 1.7ton.

Ok, this misunderstanding is cleared, my fault, sorry .
But wouldn't a flying boat have been a better transport then ?
This way of torpedo transport would have needed quite good
infrastructures, I think.

BTW, mass drops of long range torpedos against enemy fleets
(probably at night) was considered a viable tactic by some air arms,
although never used in anger, AFAIK.
It takes a long time, before all mistakes are made ...

Thanks!
Of course it was a real project. Recently Mr.Shoda, one of the leader of this flying model construction team, discovered the Nakajima's factory drawing of this transport version which Chikuhei Nakajima ordered Nakajima's engineers to design. Perhaps you will see the drawings of this transport version near future.
The nose and wing tip shape of this aircraft were similar to Lockheed Connie. The vertical stabilizer shape was similar to Electra.
